Mapping endocrine networks by stable isotope tracing

چکیده
Hormones regulate metabolic homeostasis through interlinked dynamic networks of proteins and small molecular weight metabolites, state-of-the-art chemical technologies have been developed to decipher these complex pathways. Stable-isotope tracers largely replaced radiotracers measure flux in humans, building on advances nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy mass spectrometry. These are now being applied localise molecules within tissues. Radiotracers still highly valuable both preclinically 3D imaging by positron emission tomography. The coming age vibrational conjunction with stable-isotope tracing offers detailed cellular insights map biological processes. Together computational modelling, approaches poised coalesce into multi-modal platforms provide hitherto inaccessible spatial endocrine signalling.

Stable Isotope Application in Animal Nutrition Science
The application of stable isotope analysis (SIA) has become a standard scientific approach in Agricultural and Ecological researches and, more in general, in several disciplines such as biology, botany, zoology, organic chemistry, climatology, and nutrition. The main objectives of this paper are (1) to provide a simple definition of stable isotopes and (2) to illustrate analytical measurement m...
متن کاملStable Carbon Isotope Fractionation by Methanogens
Introduction: Methanogenic archaea, which consume CO2 and H2, have been considered models for possible life forms on Mars for a long time, even before the discovery of methane in the Martian atmosphere (1-8). Several intensive experimental studies have been conducted to investigate survivability of methanogens under conditions that approach those found on Mars (2, 3, 9). Various potential sourc...
متن کاملTracing Lipid Disposition in vivo Using Stable Isotope- Labeled Fatty Acids and Mass Spectrometry
Lipids are ubiquitous molecules which serve a variety of important biological functions, including energy storage (triglycerides), modulation of cellular membrane structure and function (phospholipids and cholesterol), intracellular signaling and hormonal regulation. Dysfunctions of lipid metabolism contribute to a variety of diseases including, among others, atherosclerosis, hypertriglyceridem...
متن کاملStable isotope tracing of trout hatchery carbon to sediments and foodwebs of limestone spring creeks.
Limestone springs support productive ecosystems and fisheries, yet aquaculture may modify or impair these ecosystems. We determined trout hatchery organic contribution to spring creek sediments and foodwebs with natural abundance stable isotope methods. Hatchery feed, waste, and trout were significantly enriched in delta(13)C relative to autotrophs and wild fish. Spring creek sediments were enr...
متن کاملTracing Carbon Sources through Aquatic and Terrestrial Food Webs Using Amino Acid Stable Isotope Fingerprinting
Tracing the origin of nutrients is a fundamental goal of food web research but methodological issues associated with current research techniques such as using stable isotope ratios of bulk tissue can lead to confounding results. We investigated whether naturally occurring δ(13)C patterns among amino acids (δ(13)CAA) could distinguish between multiple aquatic and terrestrial primary production s...
